Currently i am pursuing Ph.D. from CeNSE(IISC bangalore) under the guidance of Prof Shankar Kumar Selvaraja since 2015-Jan. My research area is silicon photonics more specifically integrated photodetectors. Before that I passed B.Tech in Electronics and communication from JIS College of Engineering (under WBUT) in 2009. I have done my M.Tech in Photonics Science from IIT kanpur in 2014.
Research:
High-speed short reach optical interconnects in the data centres uses mature 850 nm VCSEL based multi-mode technology. Since the data is direly modulated by the laser, the technology is simple and economical. However, the data rate is limited by VCSEL bandwidth. Recently, it ha been proposed that CWDM technology will be adopted in the 850 band to cater the growing need in the data centre. The roadmap targets to reach a data rate of 400Gbps using CWDM technology between 830-940 nm wavelength band. The present technology uses bulk optical assembly to realise filters, light source and photodetectors. Integrating all these components on a chip would result in a more efficient and scalable system.
Using Silicon photonic platform and Silicon Nitride waveguides one can realise a photonic integrated circuit for the above-mentioned application. Silicon Nitride is transparent in the proposed wavelength, and Silicon is an excellent photodetector. Through the integration of this two material, an integrated circuit platform that can be used from visible to Near-IR applications including sensing can be realised. In this work , realising an integrated high-speed Silicon Photodetector along with SiN waveguide is the primary objective.
